Have we blown it?
Another big question for the Latrobe Valley.
Latrobe Magnesium’s proposed $1.5 billion large-scale project is now heading to South Carolina in the USA, while its larger Victorian plans have been put on hold.
The company has pointed to issues including regulation, access to fly ash and high energy costs.
We keep hearing about the Latrobe Valley’s transition.
But a transition needs jobs at the other end of it.
If we're losing traditional industries while major new projects are choosing to invest elsewhere, we need to start asking why.
The Valley needs secure, long-term jobs.
Not just announcements.
